Currently published statistics of the Czech Insurers’ Bureau (ČKP) have already confirmed the increasing popularity of MTPL insurance priced according to mileage for several times in a row.

Mileage insurance won

Both insurance companies, which bet on calculating the MTPL insurance (but also motor own damage insurance) according to the number of kilometers driven per year, found themselves on imaginary podiums. They took first and third place in the number of increases in insured vehicles with MTPL. Together, they increased their insurance base for the first half of the year by 86,611 vehicles. The remaining nine insurance companies with a price that does not take kilometers into account only achieved a slightly higher result overall.

The result is not surprising,” explains Marcel Beno, Pillow co-founder and process architect. “Insurance based on mileage offers the lowest price for approximately one third of passenger cars and motorcycles on the Czech market. According to our estimates, this is more than two million vehicles, and hundreds of thousands of car owners are still needlessly paying more than they have to for compulsory insurance.

 “The amount of savings on MTPL insurance based on PPM (pay-per-mile) principle depends on the value of the annual drive”, reveals Martin Podávka, Pillow product expert. And at the same time, he gives a concrete example: “The highest discount is given to clients with a car and a mileage of up to 5,000 km, its amount is approximately 35 %. With a current price of CZK 4,000 for compulsory insurance, the owner will save an average of CZK 1,400 by switching to PPM insurance. As mileage increases, the discount is smaller, and around an annual mileage of 15,000 kilometers, the price equals standard insurance.”
